Introduction

Lyndene Children’s Home in Bilston, Wolverhampton is a provision that cares for children and young persons of a mixed gender, aged 08-17, who may display a range of social and/or emotional difficulties. The home provides short, medium and long-term placements.

Our staff teams are vastly experienced and highly trained in all aspects of residential care and the organisation is managed by the Director, who is supported by the responsible individual and the homes registered manager.

Our Model

Build and maintain positive family relationships wherever possible by encouraging and supporting the reunification process where possible and considering the social and geographical factors of the individual

Promote a positive approach to young person’s care and experiences, incorporating and encouraging community activities, personal activities/hobbies, religious and cultural events

Complete individual and direct work with young persons to support them in coming to terms with past experiences and trauma and supporting them in the development of positive strategies for coping with their experiences and emotions

Develop levels of Emotional Literacy to enable the young persons to manage emotions and behaviour independently

We provide a person-centred approach to the delivery of a service based on behavioural approaches which ensure that care and support plans meet the needs and preferences of the child and young person as required.

Philosophy of Care Expand

The purpose of the home is to provide a safe, stable and consistent living environment, which a young person can have the opportunity to develop to their full potential and achieve positive outcomes. Young persons within the care system can often feel that they are isolated and different and find it difficult to identify with others positively. We believe that we should actively break down these barriers whenever the opportunity arises.

Therapeutic Provision Expand

The purpose of the home is to provide a nurturing homely and safe environment, and to prepare young persons to move onto the next stage of their lives, this may be a return to their natural family, placement within an alternative family or preparation for independent living. The structure of the home enables young persons to develop the skills required to live within a group of peers and to offer a high level of consistency to deal with young people’s complex needs.

Education Expand

During their stay at the home, it is anticipated that young persons will be afforded the opportunities to develop and enhance their practical, social, emotional, and educational skills to become part of a family or engage in a smooth transition into another appropriate placement, either family based or residential provision, or to achieve independence successfully.

Training Expand

All staff undergo extensive assessment as part of the training programme which includes practical assessments of each physical technique taught. The staff member’s de-escalation techniques are also assessed by the course tutors as is an assessment of conduct, values, principles and beliefs. Refresher training is also facilitated every two years as a minimum.

Activities Expand

Our aim at the home is to make persons aware of the things young persons need to help them to be happy, successful, healthy and safe, and actively encouraging learning and development. Leisure and free time is an important element in the learning and growth process for young people. It also offers staff the opportunity to spend constructive quality time with the young people, which can greatly help in the development of positive relationships. Lyndene Children’s Car Home provides specific activities for the young person’s either on an individual or group basis.

Referrals and Admissions Expand

If it is agreed that Lyndene Children’s Care Home may be a suitable placement for a young person, an induction and admission plan will be drawn up. This plan will usually consist of the following stages: –

Social Worker to discuss the referral they have made with the young person
Social Worker to discuss the referral with the young person’s parents or anyone else, with sufficient interests in the young person
A meeting at the home between the Social Worker and the Manager. This meeting is designed, both to assess the suitability of the placement and ensure the transfer of all relevant information, namely:
I.R/I.C.S Information; Detailed background information with particular emphasis on behaviours

Written Local Authority chronology of the young person which identifies significant events and moves

A copy of the Care Order/Written Plan
Consent to medical treatment and a full medical history
Previous assessments of the young person’s needs, either educational, social, or emotional
A copy of any Statement of Special Educational Need.
A copy of the referring Authority’s complaints procedure.
A copy of the referring Authority’s Safeguarding Procedures.
All appropriate L.A.C /ICS documents.

Where possible staff will endeavour to visit a young person in their current placement and then invite and encourage the young person to visit the home.
