Introduction

Wrottesley Road Children’s Home in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton is a provision that Cares for children and young persons of a mixed gender, aged 08-17, who may display a range of social and/or emotional difficulties. The home provides short, medium and long-term placements.

Our staff teams are vastly experienced and highly trained in all aspects of residential Care and the organisation is managed by the Director, who is supported by the responsible individual and the homes registered manager.

The purpose of our home is to provide a safe, stable and consistent living environment, where a young person can have the opportunity to develop to their full potential and achieve positive outcomes.

We publish a ‘pledge’ to all young person’s we look after, that outlines our promise to them and the service we will deliver

All homes engage in regular activities both in the home with the young people, giving them the opportunity to gain various life experiences that they can utilise in their transition into adult hood and beyond.

We invest in our frontline services; for example, we provide training for all our staff members to meet the needs of the young persons and ensure they are empowered to provide the highest standard of Care always to our young people.

Wrottesley Care Children’s Homes framework for practice is wrapped around the individual needs of all children and young persons and reviewed regularly to ensure its fits the ethos of the company and remains child focused.

Wrottesley Care Children’s Home is driven by a shared value of delivering exceptional Care to young people, with an aim to provide the best Care to young persons by working in partnership with local authorities and is constantly looking at how we can improve.

Philosophy of Care Expand

The purpose of the home is to provide a safe, stable and consistent living environment, which a young person can have the opportunity to develop to their full potential and achieve positive outcomes. Young persons within the Care system can often feel that they are isolated and different and find it difficult to identify with others positively. We believe that we should actively break down these barriers whenever the opportunity arises. Wrottesley Care Children’s Homes believe that a residential home can and should be a positive experience for young people, we believe that the home provides this.

Therapeutic Provision Expand

The purpose of the home is to provide a nurturing homely and safe environment, and to prepare young persons to move onto the next stage of their lives, this may be a return to their natural family, placement within an alternative family or preparation for independent living. The structure of the home enables young persons to develop the skills required to live within a group of peers and to offer a high level of consistency to deal with young people’s complex needs.

Education Expand

Through the referral and placement matching process a child’s educational needs will be assessed, including the identification of children and young persons with special educational needs. A designated member of staff will then be identified within the home to liaise with LACES in outlining a suitable plan and educational provision to meet the individual needs of the child.

Training Expand

All staff undergo extensive assessment as part of the training programme which includes practical assessments of each physical technique taught. The staff member’s de-escalation techniques are also assessed by the course tutors as is an assessment of conduct, values, principles and beliefs. Refresher training is also facilitated every two years as a minimum.

Activities Expand

We understand that activities and leisure, especially when accessed in the community, can be a resilience factor helping to stimulate and inspire our children and young people. Activities and leisure can support the development of pro-social behaviour and social competencies and be a vehicle to assist in social inclusion. The promotion of activities and leisure is a fundamental element to our model of Care and Ethos, due to the positive holistic benefits, including the opportunity to experience success and achieve in one-way shape or form. Wrottesley Care Children’s Home osueactively consults the young persons in this area, and introduces them to a great variety of activities, so that hopefully they find something which becomes special to them and meets their individual specific needs.

Referrals and Admissions Expand

The placement mapping process must be followed which outlines if the placement can meet the individual specific needs of the child prior to any introduction. Young persons should not be placed in our care even in situations of same day placements, without careful consideration of the alternatives, the dynamics, and balance of the other young persons will always be a consideration in any admission/discharge situation.
